Vanuatu video tourism
Doug Clegg (Ambrym 1997-2000) alerts us to Vanuatu.tv. He also writes that there’s not much snow but the ski resorts in Idaho are open, and “looks like if we don’t get some precip this month we could be looking at another year of drought.”
Photos of Erromango?
Hello volunteers,
I was a volunteer on Tanna (02/03) and in Vila (04) working at and for RTCs. Now I’ve been back home for a while and have taken up freelance writing. I have written an article for Sea Kayaker about a trip to Erromango and they would like to publish it, only my photos are […]
Listen to the Peace Corps podcast
The Peace Corps has a podcast published every Thursday. Subscribe and listen to voices of our fellow volunteers. We can do a Vanuatu RPCV podcast — who wants to be first?
The moon and mango seas
On my way home from work tonight, I watched as a gigantic full moon gradually got brighter and brighter. I thought back to those nights on Paama when the full moon lit up the island and I could walk around without a torch (as compared to those no-moon nights where I could barely see where […]
Feed the pig
I find my Vanuatu pictures in all kinds of odd places around the house.
Here’s an image I came across tonight, showing me sitting on a pile of navara beside the house Erin and I occupied. The coconuts were for my pig — I traded the kids of Liro Village a mini flashlight for every five […]
Missed in North Carolina
I traveled to Boston yesterday to attend the American Public Health Association conference, and so I missed two opportunities to see Vanuatu RPCVs. Ginger Newcomb was in Greensboro for a Kindermusik convention; Erin talked with Ginger by phone, and I hope she’ll fill us in on their conversation.
And, Evan Baker organized a party for RPCVs. […]
Nostalgia
The other night, I was part of a Peace Corps recruiting session panel, and I got to talk about my experience in Vanuatu. I really enjoy sharing my PC memories and encouraging others to apply and serve.
But talking about Paama makes me nostalgic, and a bit guilty. I want to go back, and I feel […]
Flying cockroaches
Remember the creepy crawlies? I wrote a short essay about the cockroaches. Read “Bugs in the night.”
Share your bug stories — spiders, roaches, ants, centipedes, mosquitoes — in the comments, or make a post of your own.
More Vanuatu PCV websites
Drew Contreras (who is working as a recruiter for the Peace Corps) alerts us to a list of Vanuatu PCV blogs over at Peace Corps Journals.
Current volunteers
Know of any current volunteers who are posting their stories and pictures to the web? Let us know about them, please.
Jamie Funderburk alerted me to a site for Bryan Roosien. And by searching Technorati (a blog search engine), I came across Paama Trees by an Australian teen.
